Testimonials

In placing 200 Summer Youth Intern teens for volunteer service in our community during the summer of 2005, the Focus Council turned to the Resource Center for assistance. Not only did they help us to identify potential sites for service, the staff provided direction on overall coordination, specific task details, and what our goals were for the project. Thanks to the Resource Center’s expertise, over 22 nonprofit agencies were supported through the teens’ volunteer service! Hopefully, this summer experience is the beginning of the teens’ commitment to lifelong service and support for our community. We could not have done it without your support.
Rhetta Hunyady, Vice President
Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce

The staff and the participants of the Center For Gerontology would like to send a sincere thank-you to everyone who has contributed to our programs. Our participants were overwhelmed with joy when the holiday gifts arrived at our site. In a time when our economic situation, seems to be at the worst it can be, there are still good people in our society who really can say they care for one another. I say thank you again and again to the Resource Center for organizing this effort. May God Bless you. Here is a letter from one of our grateful clients: “Words can't express our feelings towards you for all the help you gave my family during this holiday season. The gifts were beautiful, but the thoughts were even greater. The children and I were touched deeply. In our time of need, you were there. God bless you, may the blessings that you have given us come back to you ten fold. Sincerely Yours, Susan and Family”
Crystal Burns, Activities Coordinator

Tying resources to community needs, that’s what the Resource Center has been to me. They helped me to reach out into the community and gather information necessary to be a vital link into the community I wish to serve.
Patrick McNeal, Executive Director
My Brother’s Keeper of Genesee County

As a student and member of the community, the Resource Center has given me a chance to learn new skills and to help fill many needs in our community.

Whenever anyone asks me about a problem they have or that they want to volunteer – the first thing that always comes to mind is 767-0500 – the Resource Center of Genesee County. I have been using this terrific organization for 35 years.
Joyce Thewalt, Community Volunteer

Having worked in the medical profession for 30 years, volunteering at the Resource Center has opened my eyes to a different way to serve people. When there is a need, the Resource Center has the expertise to connect that need with a solution right within our community. The network of agencies and individuals willing to assist is amazing. I am proud to be a part of the team. The staff is excellent and their caring is heart felt. That is the key to the success of the Resource Center.

The Resource Center

Since my arrival in Flint in 1996, the Resource Center has been often my main tie to the community, and a way to be involved outside of the University in a meaningful way. I believe in their work and look forward to working with the Resource Center for many years.
Roy Barnes, Assistant Dean College of Arts and Sciences, Associate Professor of Sociology
University of Michigan - Flint

The Resource Center was critical to my getting involved with Service Learning. I brought my Honors class in and within two hours everyone had a significant volunteer assignment. The efficiency and knowledge of the Resource Center staff is quite simply unsurpassed. Anyone in Genesee County knows that they can find the volunteer resources and information quickly and efficiently at the Center.
Paul Rozycki, Political Science Professor
COPC Co-Director

The Resource Center and the Americorps VISTA volunteers have been a tremendous assistance to the Genesee County Tax Assistance and Financial Literacy Coalition. They have skillfully coordinated the organizations and individuals involved in the Coalition. Personally, I rely on the assistance of the Americorps VISTA volunteers to provide information regarding the activities of all the Coalition member organizations. I was a member of the Coalition prior to the involvement of the Resource Center and the Coalition operates more effectively and efficiently since the involvement of the Americorps VISTA volunteers.

The value of the Resource Center to Genesee County cannot be understated. It provides a central point through which resources and opportunities can be distributed throughout the community. The Resource Center exemplifies the values of good stewardship, assuring wise use of valuable community resources.
Jamie Gaskin, Executive Director
Boys and Girls Club of Flint

The Genesee County Tax Assistance and Financial Literacy Coalition could not exist without our volunteers. The Resource Center has assisted us in contacting, attracting, and training volunteers who are committed to the work of financial literacy. These dedicated volunteers are committed to excellence in assisting with tax preparation. We could not have found these great folks without the expertise of the Resource Center staff and volunteers.
Maxine Storey, Primary Trainer
National Association of Black Accountants (NABA)

The Resource Center provided much needed assistance to the Flint Housing Commission during the 2005 holiday season. Through the great work of the Resource Center the Flint Housing Commission was able to provide food baskets, toys, books, and personal need items to Flint Housing Commission low-income families. Without the help of the Resource Center the Flint Housing Commission would not have been able to provide the magnitude of gifts and donations needed. The Flint Housing Commission is very grateful for all the help we received and we look forward to working with the Resource Center during the 2006 holiday season.
Lakecia Powell, Director of Community Support Services
Flint Housing Commission

We have a long history with the Resource Center. Not only do they help us recruit mentors, they also help match us with donors through their Holiday Wish List program. The Resource Center was instrumental in bringing together what eventually became known as the Service Learning Collaborative in Flint. The Resource Center gave us the necessary tools to work with teachers identifying and assessing community problems and connecting with local agencies to place our kids in corresponding service activities. Because of these successful collaborations, Flint Community School students contributed more than 82,000 hours of service last school year through projects tied directly to their classroom curriculum.

The services provided by the Resource Center are necessary to the survival of this community. You always provide the right linkages at the most crucial time and we appreciate it!
