The Resource Center, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting volunteerism and effective nonprofit management in Genesee County, has named a new Executive Director, Dale K. Weighill. Weighill, a former employee of the Michigan House of Representatives, was tapped to replace Karen S. West who resigned at the end of 1999.
"We are saddened to lose Karen’s expertise, skills, and good judgement, said Resource Center Board of Directors’ President Ingrid Halling. "At the same time, we are very pleased that someone of Dale’s caliber and talents has decided to join our team. Karen was instrumental in bringing about the formation of the Center in 1997. We know Dale will help bring the organization to the next level."
West became the Resource Center’s first Executive Director when the organization was formed through the merger of three local nonprofits: Leadership Flint, the Flint Executive Service Corps (FESC), and the United Way Voluntary Action Center and First Call for Help. She left the Center in December to spend more time with her family.

"My work at the Resource Center fulfilled a once-in-a-lifetime dream. To be able to take a ‘cutting edge’ concept successfully from initiation through implementation was the most exciting challenge and opportunity that I have had so far in my professional life, " West said.
Before joining the Resource Center in February 2000, Weighill worked as a Legislative Assistant for a State Representative from Livonia. Prior to that, he was a part-time Political Science instructor at Mott and Oakland Community Colleges.
"I’m honored to be part of the Resource Center’s efforts to strengthen both volunteerism and the nonprofit community in Genesee County, and I am very excited about the tremendous potential of this young organization. I consider Flint to be my adopted hometown, and I’m pleased to be back, " Weighill said.
The Resource Center runs community leadership, nonprofit management assistance, and volunteer involvement and information referral programs that seek to connect important resources to critical community needs.
