The Resource Center, a local organization dedicated to promoting volunteerism and effective nonprofit management in the Flint area, has been awarded a $25,000 Volunteer Investment Grant (VIG) by the Michigan Community Service Commission. The Center was the only Genesee County nonprofit to receive grant monies during the current phase of the Commission’s awards process, and will use the new funds to enhance the consulting and training services it provides to other local, not-for-profit organizations.

"This award will help us expand our nonprofit assistance efforts through the recruitment of additional volunteer management consultants and the development of new training opportunities, " said Dale K. Weighill, executive director. "In addition to strengthening the support services we already provide in areas like strategic planning and organizational assessment, this grant will help to secure our future by serving as an incentive to build up our endowment."

Nonprofit organizations that receive Michigan’s Volunteer Investment Grants are required to raise matching dollars that will be placed in their endowment funds. For example, in order to receive this $25,000 grant the Resource Center will need to raise $37,500 for its endowment.
