FLINT, MI – The board of directors of Resource Genesee has announced its selection of a new President and CEO for the nonprofit organization. Lindsey Younger, a Flint resident, was promoted to the position this month. Younger has served as Director of Information Services at the nonprofit organization for more than five years.
“Lindsey knows Resource Genesee inside and out. The board has full confidence in her ability to lead the organization and move its mission forward,” said Resource Genesee board chair Diane Lechota.
Younger has served as interim President and CEO since January when the former head of the nonprofit, Dale Weighill, accepted a position with Mott Community College. Weighill ran Resource Genesee for more than 10 years.
Resource Genesee, formerly known as The Resource Center, is the volunteer center for Genesee County, runs an adult leadership program called Leadership Genesee, and has an Information & Referral Hotline where residents call to connect with a wide variety of social services.
Younger spearheaded the effort to bring 211 to Genesee County. Beginning this year area residents can dial 2-1-1 for a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week help hotline. Resource Genesee is also home to the One Stop Housing Resource Center which provides services to people who are homeless or close to being homeless. The organization also supports other area nonprofits in a variety of ways.
“I am looking forward to serving as President and CEO of Resource Genesee.
We have an excellent and creative board of directors and our staff members are exceedingly capable,” Younger said.
Younger was a teacher for 12 years before moving into the nonprofit world. She worked in fund development for the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan and the YWCA of Greater Flint. She is also the former director of the Spanish Speaking Information Center.
Younger is also a longtime member of the Rotary Club of Flint, has served on the City of Flint Human Relations Commission since 1992, is a member of the Genesee County Hispanic/Latino Collaborative, the Community Resolution Center and a board member for Genesee County Youth Corporation. She has also held numerous leadership roles at First Presbyterian Church of Flint where Younger is a lifetime member.
Younger holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Spanish from University of Michigan-Flint and a master’s degree in Language and International Trade from Eastern Michigan University.
