FLINT, MI – Resource Genesee has received a $17,000 Founder’s Emergency Fund Grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint. The grant will be used to provide emergency funding of last resort to individuals and families with housing, utility and other needs. The funds will be dispersed through One Stop Housing Resource Center, a program of Resource Genesee.
“This grant will assist our clients with emergency rental payments and deposits and utility payments and other emergencies. The need for these services has increased for many people in Genesee County due to lay offs and the general condition of the economy. These funds have arrived not a moment too soon,” said Resource Genesee President and CEO Lindsey Younger.
One Stop Housing Resource Center provides comprehensive housing placement and services to people who are homeless, are at risk of becoming homeless, or have special needs. Clients have access to many services offered by at least twelve partner agencies all located at One Stop, 303 Water Street, Flint.
At One Stop experienced case managers work carefully and thoroughly with clients to ensure that each person is served in the most appropriate way. Staff members assist first-time clients with a comprehensive assessment process to determine client needs and services for which they qualify. Then referrals are made to agencies that may be able to assist.
Resource Genesee, the parent agency to the One Stop, is also home to the volunteer center for Genesee County known as HandsOn Genesee and runs an adult leadership program called Leadership Genesee. It also has an Information & Referral Hotline, 2-1-1. Genesee County residents can dial 2-1-1 to connect with a wide variety of social services 24 hours a day seven days a week. Resource Genesee also supports other area nonprofits in a variety of ways.
