Leadership Genesee is gearing up for its 2011-12 class year. Now is the time to apply!

"Everything rises and falls on leadership."

Look around you and see how true that is. Resource Genesee’s leadership programs are designed to develop leaders who want to engage their community and make a difference. Even if you don't consider yourself a "leader," your passion to make a difference in any area of our community reveals the emerging leader within you!

Participants meet for one full day each month, in different locations and with various community leaders in education, government, business, and the nonprofit sectors. The program moves participants from “head to heart to feet,” making a commitment to be part of the solution to challenges facing the community.

Leadership Genesee's 2010-11 program will begin in September. The program brings together professionals from throughout Genesee County for an in-depth look at personal, professional, and community leadership issues.

The program has five main goals and objectives:
  • Provide training to enhance participants’ individual leadership skills;
  • Provide a framework for networking among participants,  community leaders, alumni, and others in the community;
  • Build awareness among participants of community issues, resources, needs and civic responsibilities;
  • Motivate participants to become more active citizens; and
  • Expose participants to new, research-based ideas related to GeneseeCounty’s economic, social, and political future.

Here are what some recent Leadership Genesee participants had to say:

LG was an exciting and enriching experience that allowed me to network with a diverse group of community members who all have one single goal: to make a positive impact in Genesee County. Furthermore, my experiences in LG have enhanced my leadership skills as well as developed and maintained community partnerships. The one single thing that I enjoyed most about the monthly LG meetings was the positive energy from the members. It is definitely an experience that will last a lifetime.

Marie Jones‐Watts, Genesee County Community Mental Health

“Leadership Genesee is a remarkable organization that encourages future leaders to see the possibilities for making a difference. Because they encouraged us do this without promoting a specific agenda, they were masterful in mentoring us to develop relationships, acquire new skills, and apply our efforts to projects that best suit our talents.”

Dr. Tom Ruediger, University of Michigan, Flint

"I think the best part about the Leadership Genesee program for me was learning more about me. I have been a resident of downtown Flint for 17 years, so I assumed I knew everything that happened here. Not only did I discover programs and people I did not know about, but getting to see Flint and Genesee County through the eyes of my classmates helped me to see many programs in a new light that had not occurred to me before. I really feel like I grew as both a person and a community minded professional because of my experiences. I wish more people could go through this program to learn about the good things that happen here."

Chris Everson, Downtown Development Authority
